Jason Matthews is the founder and owner of River Source. He has been a professional wilderness guide and paddling instructor for over a decade. He has traveled from the Equator to the Arctic Circle in pursuit of wilderness adventure, and has guided expeditions by paddle, dog-sled, and horseback throughout the Rocky Mountains. His love for wild places, quirky sense of humor, and never ending enthusiasm will make your trip the vacation of a lifetime.
Jason has worked as an instructor for the Voyageur Outward Bound School, Ely, MN and Montana State University-Bozeman, and as a columnist for RIVER magazine. His trips focus on safety, environmental awareness, skills development, and FUN! email him: kayakerjsm@aol.com
Catherine Matthews is our reservation specialist, and trip photographer. The outfitting/guiding business runs deep in her blood, as both her father and husband are professional guides. She can be found in the summer on the phone, behind the wheel of the van, or climbing the cliffs of Yankee Jim Canyon snapping photos. In the winter she is a Special Education teacher. She lives in the mountains near Yellowstone Park with her husband and 20 crazed sled dogs.
Patrick Rogers is our main man. He guides more River Source trips than anyone. He is a Colorado native who moved North specifically for our outstanding whitewater rivers (and college). He is an incredible Class V kayaker, a natural leader and a humble dude with a lot of soul. You'll be lucky to land ol' Patty as your guide. Thanks Pat, for striving to make River Source better every day.
Holt Hancock is a Livingston native who knows the Yellowstone River like the back of his hand. He grew up canoeing, fishing and swimming our river reaches every day, now we are honored to have him lead our clients down them. He is the youngest member of the River Source team, and we like to tease him about being the Valedictorian of his high school class, and that he always makes all A's in college!
Alex Rordam was born in Oslo, Norway but moved to Montana as a youngster. When not guiding rafts he is in a band named Otherwise and tours all around the region. He believes he's a rock star and heart throb. We think he's funny, so will you if he ends up guiding your boat! Keep an eye on your daughters, they may fall victim to "Alexmania" He is an Outward Bound graduate and works at Bridger Bowl Ski Area in the winter.
"The Force" is strong in this young jedi paddler. Chad Wiebe is our whitewater kayaking specialist, he leads our winter kayaking/pool classes and is available during the summers for playboating clinics. Chad travels internationally to paddle and regularly competes in kayaking competitions. If you want to become a paddle master this is the man to talk to.
Mark Schaffer has guided trips in the most remote places in Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. He has guided on every major wilderness river in the USA. His love for rivers lead him to earn a degree in hydrology at Montana State University and to travel throughout South America looking for new paddling opportunities. He is currently working on his masters degree and guiding for us part-time.
Peter Howell a.k.a- "Sneaky Pete" is our resident fishing and gear rowing specialist. He primarily guides for us on multi-day Yellowstone River trips only, however, we wish he had more time to dedicate to River Source. His time in the field as a hunting and fishing guide have made him an expert on the wildlife and flora of our area, and his laid back demeanor make him a favorite of our guests.
Joe Vesey started his relationship with River Source as a student, taking a kayaking course in 2001. Now several years later he teaches those same courses. His passion and dedication to the sport is contagious, and his patience is amazing. Rumors are he is moving away from our area, and getting a "real" job. However, only time will tell- until then you can find him on any of our local rivers.
Joe Barnett is "The Man" he is a full-time recreational expert. He does it all for River Source, from succesfully guiding multi-days in April when the wind is so strong that the cook stoves won't stay lit, to rowing "scenic" floats in October when you can't see the surrounding mountains due to all the snow clouds. No matter the situation Joe can handle it with a smile. Thanks Joe for all you do for us!
Pete Krebs is a local legend, and perhaps one of the best raft guides ever. Women love him, and men envy him. He's been guiding and living the resort lifestyle for nearly 15 years, and has the sun-bleached hair and deep dark tan to prove it. On every trip he delivers the "PKD" (Pete Krebs difference) which means his clients laugh the most, and get the wettest. How does he do it? Request him and find out!
Darcy Cook is the toughest member of Team River Source, if you don't believe it just try to wrestle her. She is approaching the 10 year mark as a guide, and she is always a customer favorite. She is also a rippin' skier and a gifted kayaker. When not guiding she works a 9-5 as a Physical Therapist.
