- LEARN TO PADDLE!

NEAR YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK in Livingston, Montana

 

Join us and learn the art of the paddle.  Learn the technical skills that will allow you to pursue river exploration on your own.  Our founder Jason Matthews has taught thousands of people to paddle over the past decade, as an instructor for Outward Bound, and Montana State University. He and his staff look forward to introducing you to (or helping you master) this life-altering sport.  Paddling is not just a pastime it's a lifestyle.  We have courses for all ages and abilities!


- WHITEWATER KAYAKING

INTRO TO KAYAKING-

In this one day course you'll learn the basics of the sport in a local pond. You'll be taught an overview of the sport, the wet-exit, paddling strokes, the T-rescue, and much more.  This is for first-time paddlers and is suited to all ages.  If you learn all the basics in the morning, we'll paddle a short section of the Yellowstone River, after a sack lunch in the afternoon.  If you need a little more time, we'll continue on in the pond with some fun games that will be sure to leave you smiling and learning to paddle.  All gear and lunch is included.  Private Lesson $225  Group Lesson  $125 per person

RAPID EDUCATION-

After you have mastered the skills of the pond, and flatwater, it's time for a rapid education! In this clinic you'll learn the skills needed to successfully negotiate a whitewater river: the eddy-turn, the peel-out, ferrying, surfing and more.  This class is for people that have been kayaking before and feel comfortable in a whitewater boat.  It's a full, wet day! We provide all gear and sack lunch.  Private $225  Group $125

ESKIMO ROLL CLINIC-

Your going to need a roll if you really want to pursue kayaking.  We'll show you all the techniques and help you try and master this ancient skill.  All gear included, class taught in indoor pool or pond depending on weather conditions. $50 per hour

THE GUARANTEED ROLL-

Having trouble learning the roll?  This class is taught only by Jason Matthews, in an indoor pool and guaranteed to have you rolling (or your money back) Jason has a 100% success rate teaching these one-on-one lessons!  $150


- RAFTING INSTRUCTIONS

INTRO TO RAFTING:

Every spring we offer this clinic for people who want to learn to run rivers in their own raft, or become a raft guide.  We'll teach you the basics of both paddle rafting and rowing an oar-rig, as well as, reading the river and hazard identification.  This class is offered as a one-day intensive training workshop.  After this course most participants should have the necessary skills to navigate Class I & II rivers on their own.

WHITEWATER WORKSHOP:

Are you craving whitewater?  If you've learned the basics of rafting and desire more of a challenge than this is the next step.  In this intense one-day course you'll be guiding a raft through Class III rapids, swimming rapids,  and learning what to do when the river throws you for a loop.  This course can be taken in conjunction with the above listed Introduction class at a discounted rate.  Call for details.

- CANOEING INSTRUCTIONS

INTRODUCTION TO RIVER CANOEING:

Do you long to see the world as early explorers and Native Americans did?  If so, then this is your clinic.  The path of the paddle is a long an ancient tradition that will open new worlds to you.  Their is no more low-impact way to commune with nature than by canoe.  Join us and learn the time-honored skills of paddling, poling and running rivers by canoe.  All gear and sack lunch included.

EXPEDITION BASICS:

After you've learned basic canoe navigation, it's time to learn the skills that will allow you to safely and proficiently pursue more remote destinations.  In this two-day clinic we'll cover all the things you'll need to know to challenge wild rivers.  Skills covered: trip planning, packing, scouting rapids, running rapids, portaging, lining rapids and much more.
